Homeowner’s Request:This homeowner was happy with the plans for the rest of this custom home’s design, but believed the master bathroom still left something to be desired. Cowan and his team were hired to transform the master bath into all that the homeowner believed it could be.Designer’s Challenge:To make the space comfortable, indulgent and a luxurious reflection of the homeowner’s personal style.Designer’s Solution:Cowan and his team created a new plan that incorporated a private water closet with a beaded glass pocket door for privacy, a double floating vanity, a large walk-in shower and walk-in closet. Adhering to the homeowner’s desire to have a warm, comfortable look and feel for their master bath, Cowan employed the use of contrasts. He incorporated dark-stained cabinetry and dark, open shelving against light-colored travertine flooring, powder blue walls and a blue concrete vanity window.Deep-hued, quartzite wall tiles and a dramatic, recessed mirror also anchor the space while providing an important focal point. Sconces, recessed and can lighting further accentuate the vanity window. The new walk-in shower features a bench seat, no-slip tumbled mosaic tile, and a pony wall with quartzite tile in contrast to the travertine shower surround and floors. Deep drawers throughout provide ample storage, as does the new walk-in closet. As the designer points out, “The homeowner is ecstatic with the master bath and looks forward to the beginning and ending of each day. Although it is one of the most intimate spaces in the home, the owner can’t help but show it off.” |
