Hecks-daughter
Do you have children? Does this photo look familiar to you? It was submitted to us by one of our readers, a father who was fed up with his daughter's messy bedroom. He took this photo with the hope that, in showing it to her, she would be shamed into cleaning up her room. The plan backfired. "Instead," he explains, "the photo became a point of pride. She actually used the photo as the background for her computer desktop. She kept it there for years."

If a bedroom like this is part of your reality, too, Hawaii Home + Remodeling is offering some solutions in this month's interior design story, "Keiki Collection." Companies, such as ORG and JuBee, build bedroom furniture with our little tornadoes in mind. A simple set can help systemize belongings. Believe it or not, children like structure and order. It's up to us to provide it. But, not to get too serious, we also threw in some plain ol' fun kid stuff, such as Rug Pal's TV Watch Dog, Foam Fans and Figgy table lamps.

If you have a teen girl going back to school this fall, flip to this month's "Fresh Ideas" for some bright desk accessories. Something like a red rocket chair or a pink SimpleHuman flip-top trash can may make going back to school less traumatic.

To the discouraged father mentioned above, I hope the publicity doesn't further indulge your daughter.

Enjoy the read!
