Pools
and Decks and Grills, oh my! Yes, it's the magazine's third annual
Summer Special. This issue is always fun to put together for you,
because we get out of the office to scout new arrivals and preview fun
summer stuff. It turns out this summer season is more sophisticated and
sexy. Rather than bright, flashy color schemes, this year is more
subdued and romantic.
The
heat is being cooled off with sea-breeze teals and aqua blues.
Complemented with crisp whites, blushing pinks and chocolate browns,
this summer's colors are sumptuous.
Need help in setting the stage for summer romance? We put together a summer spread for you. See "Summer's Best" for ideas on how to create a private party for two.
If
your ideal way to spend summer is lounging around outside doing as
little as possible, we have several summer seats to kick back in. "Summer Living"
offers stylish and durable outdoor furniture pieces. Items range from
sun-worshiping lounges to shade-providing orbits and genie chairs.
Plus,
our annual report on the hottest barbecues will surely reignite your
interest in outdoor entertaining. Be sure to enjoy some outside lanai
time with friends and family. Because, as we always say, anything you
can cook inside tastes even better prepared outside.
If
you're considering building a deck or installing a pool this summer or
next, "Hit the Deck" and "Into the Blue" are must reads. Experts in
both fields offer you insight into what materials work best in Hawaii
and why.
A
special thanks to Eovino & Associates for generously offering its
Kahala Avenue home as a venue for the cover shoot and "Summer's Best."
Have a great (if not romantic) summer!

"I'm
just wild about saffron … which is why I was drawn to these colorful
pillows that I foraged out of a pile of fabric at an eclectic Chinatown
shop called Beleza Gift Shop. These affordable pillows will add a
splash of summer to any room—like a bouquet of fresh flowers.
Happy summer!"
