Welcome to autumn! Normally, you can tell it's the beginning of fall in Hawaii when we start to have more evening rains and hot, humid days. But this season was kicked off with flash-flood warnings and a 6.7 jolt!

One of our clients was visiting Kona with his family at the time of the quake—just four miles from the epicenter. He called us the following day, saying it was a life-affirming moment for him. When the quake hit, so did his instincts. He swept up his child and wife, tucking one under each arm, and hid in the hotel room's most solid spot—the bathroom. Undoubtedly, huddling your family in a bathtub, as your hotel trembles and shakes, can present some clarity and perspective on life.

For this reason, our fall issue comes out at the perfect time—Thanksgiving. Time to give thanks and appreciation for family, friends and all that we have in our lives. If you're planning on a Thanksgiving dinner, go to Fresh Ideas. It has Turkey Day-inspired decorations and cooking gadgets.

And, since Christmas is approaching, visit this issue's holiday gift section. The guide has a variety of home-related, gift ideas. Happy shopping, giving (and receiving!)

Happy Holidays from the Hawaii Home + Remodeling team!
