Chances
are, the grocery-store clerk doesn’t ask you the paper-or-plastic
question anymore, because it just got down to basic economics.
In
other words, plastic bags are cheaper to produce than paper bags. They
don’t leak and take less space to transport and store. Plastic bags
cost the store owner 1 cent each, versus 4 cents for a paper bag.
An
unfortunate side effect of this “plastic bag economy” is that plastic
bags are now everywhere. They’re stuffed in cabinets and drawers. They
hang on doorknobs and drawer pulls. They’re used to pack lunches,
transport wet clothes and pick up pet droppings. But mostly, they’re
stuffed into other unused plastic bags waiting to be reused as trash
can liners. They’re probably the most reused item around the house.
A
few of the products we offer at City Mill are specifically designed to
use plastic grocery bags, so you save money and reduce waste.
The
simplehuman® Upright Grocery Bag Holder has a slim shape that fits in a
cabinet or on a counter. Its stainless steel body holds up to 50
plastic grocery bags—simply tuck them into the top opening, and pull
them out from the wide dispensing area on the front.
The
simplehuman® Cabinet Mount Trash System is ideal for the kitchen—its
chrome-plated, steel frame easily mounts to the inside of a cabinet
door with just four screws. A convenient, integrated bag holder on the
frame neatly stores and dispenses up to 50 plastic bags, so they’re
handy and within reach when you need them. To reuse bags for trash
disposal, simply slip the handles of any standard-size grocery bag onto
the frame for a perfect fit.
The
simplehuman® Profile Step Can has a sleek, narrow shape that is perfect
for a tight spot next to a toilet or under a desk. The stainless steel
can features an innovative removable bucket that is designed for use
with standard-size plastic grocery bags. The handles of the bag hook
easily onto the side tabs of the bucket for a secure fit. |
