Many philosophers have said the key to happiness is finding one’s purpose in life. When you step into Bali Moon Hawaii’s new, more than 3,000-square-foot furniture showroom, it’s obvious the store’s owner and designer, Claudio Fernandez, has found his.

Designing and importing quality and unique textiles, furniture and homewares are Fernandez’s passions. The showroom floor is filled with contemporary furniture made from teak, rattan, wicker and recycled wood—as well as colorful curtains, pillows, lamps, bed covers and throws. His products come from such exotic locales as Indonesia, India and Pakistan.

Everything Fernandez carries is made exclusively for Bali Moon Hawaii and thus, is sold nowhere else. Working with exclusive manufacturers allows Fernandez to create pieces of the highest quality and design—earning him a reputation for excellence and helping his business grow from its beginnings in a small house in Haleiwa.

“What I accomplished out of that little house was incredible,” Fernandez says. He took custom orders, then designed and manufactured the pieces to decorate the interiors of luxury homes. He also provided furniture and accessories for several landmark hotels, namely the Four Seasons, Kahala Mandarin, W Hotel and Halekulani. He completed these projects with very little promotion, mostly customer references and superior products. Today, furniture seekers come from all over the Islands to Bali Moon, specifically to see his work.

The showroom carries three exclusive furniture lines that combine American techniques with Indonesian craftsmanship. The Teak line is kiln-dried, which reduces humidity in the wood and removes the potential for cracking. Butterfly connectors, used in the joints and metal rods with epoxy, assure strength and durability. And some pieces have beautiful coconut wood inlays.

The Recycled Teak line uses wood recycled from old houses in Asia, old bridges and train tracks. The pieces are new, but the wood averages 50 years or more, which gives each piece strength, as well as a distinctive look.

The Rattan and Wicker line uses natural fibers, in a variety of weavings, that are specifically treated against the threat of termites. All have superior finishings and are weather-resistant.

Whether you’re looking for a dining room table, a bookshelf, a love seat or a new bed, you can be sure that each piece in the Bali Moon collection is a unique, quality product, bringing together East and West, while emphasizing simplicity and style.

“I love what I do,” Fernandez says. And it shows.
