In Cooking as Therapy, Louis Parrish wrote, “If you can organize your kitchen, you can organize your life.” Much of a family’s time is spent in the kitchen. It’s not only the location of various gadgets, appliances, tools and foodstuffs, it’s also the heart of the home. It’s a place to gather, share, talk, bond or just hang out.

Kitchen space is always at a premium, but whether you live in a 3,000-square-foot house or a 300-square-foot apartment, there’s a common problem that all Americans share: cluttered kitchen cabinet doors. The battle for space in the kitchen is often fought behind closed cabinets. The average consumer owns more than 15 food storage containers of awkward shapes and sizes that can lead to cabinet clutter.

Kitchen items are now being designed to provide you with more storage space.

Rubbermaid has introduced Collapsibles—a line of food storage containers to facilitate kitchen organization. Collapsibles feature unique pleated sidewalls that fold down to an inch high for convenient storage. They are available in 2.5-, 4- and 6-cup sizes that can be stored in various ways, keeping lids and bases organized. Sizes adjust for custom use to accommodate leftovers, snacks and ingredients, offering consumers the capacity of three containers in one. They are also durable food savers, tested by opening and closing them 3,000 times to ensure a lifetime of use.

While plastic containers make storing food easier, storing empty plastic containers can be extremely frustrating. It’s not uncommon to have an entire cabinet or drawer devoted to a mess of plastic containers and lids scattered about in a sloppy manner. Collapsible containers take the inherent clumsiness out of storing containers by keeping them flat and stackable. Now, the container drawer or cabinet can be organized, with room for things other than containers.
