BYOM (Bring Your Own Mug)

No one’s telling you to skip your daily caffeine fix, but if you bring your own mug, most coffee shops will give you a discount.

Don’t Buy, Borrow!

Quick to order your next book online? Why not enjoy library books for free?

Refill

Buy food, cosmetics and shampoo in bulk and go back for refills at stores such as Whole Foods and Down to Earth. You’ll buy less frequently and save money on packaging.

Score Free Stuff

Find lots of items for your home, such as furniture and building supplies, from sites like freecycle.org,
freesharing.org and craigslist.org.

Grow Your Grub

Try your hand at growing your own fruits and vegetables. Even if you only have room for a small herb garden, you’ll save yourself a trip to the store (and some money) for that last-minute parsley.

Bus It

Don’t need your car during the workday? A bus pass probably costs a fraction of what you pay for parking and gas (and you’ll have time to catch up on those new library books). Biking works, too.

Donate

Donate your used goods and clothing and you could be eligible for tax deductions. For more info, visit irs.gov and follow the links.

Recharge

How often do you buy batteries? Buy rechargeables once and reuse them again and again.

Choose Cold

Go with cold water over hot whenever and wherever you can, especially for chores such as laundry and dishwashing, to save money on your energy bills.
