The company features its exclusive Kahala Floors engineered-wood flooring line. Engineered flooring is constructed by installing a wear layer of the actual wood species on top of nine criss-crossed plywood layers. “The engineers have gained popularity because they allow for more trouble-free wood- floor installation,” says President/CEO Shirley Pai Hilton. She explains that engineered wood is “a very green product," as fewer valuable wood resources are used beneath the surface. In addition, engineered flooring creates a stable surface. The criss-crossed ply layers provide a solid foundation–more like rock than wood. The 3,000-square-foot showroom is not only one of the largest wood-flooring showrooms in the state, but one that also exhibits premium quality and durability in its products. “Our flooring is made to have a lifespan of 80-plus years, so it’s a lifetime product,” Hilton says. With its mission of “bringing high-quality wood-flooring products to the people of Hawaii at reasonable prices,” catering to the customers' needs is a priority. The company also offers installation services, accessories for installation and proper- maintenance products. Opening the new showroom has paid off, according to Hilton. “There is definitely a lot more foot traffic in this more accessible location,” she says, “and we’re still growing.”
