So'mace advocates sustainability, offering eco-friendly, locally produced  products whenever possible. Up next: a sustainable furniture line. A few pieces are already available in-store.

Walk into So’mace and you can’t help but feel happy. “We thrive to inspire everyday living with color, pattern and texture,” says managing director Edward Macey.

The full-service shop, which opened in June 2008, offers furniture, accessories and textiles with island appeal. The So’mace look is the brainchild of Macey and creative director Kaypee Soh. Interior designer Isla Schmidt joined the company last December.

Ask Macey how the business came to be, and he points to a pillow. When Soh received encouragement from industry experts to apply his unique designs to textiles, a pillow collection was born. Macey and Soh shopped Soh's designs around and were met with skepticism. "So we decided to try opening our own store,”  Macey says.

Today, Soh’s nature-inspired upholstery designs, printed canvas art, those fantastic pillows and more are available at So’mace. The company also offers custom design and consultation services to help creative shoppers apply the pieces to their unique lifestyles. “We want people to come in, look through books, get ideas and wander around,” says Schmidt.

Shoppers will also appreciate So’mace’s quick turnaround time for custom projects (usually about four to eight weeks).

Thanks to the purveyors’ vision, the place has a boutiquelike feel. “We’re really trying to focus on doing everything on our own,” says Macey.
So get inspired. This is just the place to discover that hard-to-find object or grow your next design idea.
