In 2009, with the help of ENERGY STAR®, Americans saved $17 billion on energy bills and reduced greenhouse-gas emissions equal to those of 30 million cars, according to the Department of Energy. More than ever, homeowners are considering energy efficiency when appliance shopping and appliance brands have taken note. Now, they’ve improved their products to surpass ENERGY STAR® guidelines, where possible, and use less energy all around. Here are seven standouts you shouldn’t miss.

This ENERGY STAR® fridge offers high-capacity storage and energy
efficiency wrapped into one. Sealed cooling keeps temperatures
regulated, while LED lighting illuminates the GlassLine Shelving, which
can hold up to 180 pounds.
This refrigerator uses less
energy than a 60-watt light bulb! The industry’s most efficient
side-by-side refrigerator, the Resource Saver exceeds the EPA’s ENERGY
STAR® guidelines by 30 percent.
Using as little as two gallons of water per
cycle, this dishwasher uses 70 percent less water than the average
dishwasher and operates on only 180 kWh/y of energy, which is an
industry best, according to Bosch representative Sarah Moses.
The most efficient washer in the U.S.,
according to Lisa Yamaguchi of Servco Home & Appliance Distribution,
is the Bosch Vision, which incorporates EcoSmart sensors to maximize
efficiency and EcoAction to reduce energy by 20 percent. Its ActiveWear
technology also uses 64 percent less water per load. It also qualifies
for a $200 rebate on select Bosch models for the month of April.
