“The mission statement is about health; it’s about the environment; it’s about people and it’s about sustainability,” says Mike Reeves, the company’s founder.

Green Builder's Depot offers more than 600 sustainable and eco-friendly products for homeowners and building professionals in one convenient location.

“My concept was to be a small mom-and-pop store where people could come in and [we would] provide them with one-on-one expertise.”

The store carries products such as Eco Timber Flooring, nontoxic and low-odor Mythic Paint (left) and soy-based wood stains, all of which are made in the U.S. “We are very cautious about what products we carry,” Reeves says. “We have paints that you can use in a hospital room, where [patients] can be next door and not feel the effects or smell the effects of the VOCs (volatile organic compounds).”

Reeves started the company with several ideas in mind, the first being educating local consumers about the hazards of commonly found toxic paints and other building supplies. Next, he taught his customers and staff how to best use the products. “My employees are trained on all our products, and we have specialists, too,” says Reeves. “We have a great connection with our manufacturers and if we don’t have the answer, we’ll get it from them.”

At Green Builder’s Depot, a quality green alternative exists for almost any building-product need. And, Reeves adds, “you can’t put a price on health. You’re getting a superior product and good customer service.”
