Reuse is one of the easiest of the three Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) to do. We asked our staff and you, our readers, via hawaiihomeandremodeling.com, for favorite new uses for old things. We hope these tips inspire you to live a little greener in 2010.
-gussyrose, via hawaiihomeandremodeling.com “I save the corks from wine bottles to make a cool-looking corkboard (I keep only real corks, not the artificial ones). Just glue the corks into place inside a picture frame with the glass removed. Hang it on the wall and stick push-pins in it to post notes and bills and such.” -Sara R., via hawaiihomeandremodeling.com “We use recycled pasta-sauce jars—Classico jars work well—for hurricane candleholders. With a little sand in the bottom and a tealight, they’re perfect for a table setting.” -Edward Macey and Kaypee Soh, So’mace Lifestyle “When I forget my reusable shopping bags and am stuck with the plastic ones, I reuse them as laundry bags for cleaning rags. I keep my dirty cleaning rags inside plastic bags until I accumulate a load large enough to wash the rags separately from my clothing.“ -Sabra Morris, editor, Hawaii Home + Remodeling “I often receive gifts in those little lauhala baskets. Instead of throwing them out, I use the boxes and the tops separately to organize items in my desk drawers.” -Lora Lamm, art director, Hawaii Home + Remodeling I love fresh flowers in eclectic containers. My favorite thing to do is save glass jars and bottles, like sparkling-water bottles, to use as vases. Cans work, too! -Jenny Looking for more green tips more often?
