The peaceful master bathroom was intentionally kept simple and spalike with a large soaking tub, steel vessel sink and slate tiles.

“These are very commercial steel steps,” Hickox says. “You can even see the numbers of the I-beam manufacturer welded into the side where their stamp is.” The custom circular staircase in the bedroom has an equally lofty edge to it, yet both lead visually to the Balinese-style ceilings, Hickox notes. While it’s unexpected, it’s the mixing of the styles, textures and colors that really ties everything together—from top to bottom.

The homeowner kept all the walls in the home white to highlight its minimalist design. As a result, her artwork, family photos and treasures collected from all over the world really pop.

“She uses her travels to decorate, rather than a whole lot of color,” Hickox says of the homeowner. “Color might have ruined the whole effect of the structure, but Balinese style is simple—and beautiful in its simplicity.”
