Shinn added a winding walking path among the foliage, paved with Hokuahi’s signature stepping stones, which are poured on site. The Tylers’ existing gravel was enhanced and their brick border got a makeover when the bricks were refinished with the same poured concrete treatment as the stepping stones. The Tylers’ existing sprinkler system also got an upgrade for easier maintenance and more efficient irrigation. “The preexisting system wasn’t covering the space properly,” Shinn explains. “We renovated the system, adding more sprinkler heads and valves to increase the water pressure.” With the previous system, Tyler ran his sprinklers manually. Shinn converted it to a battery-powered, control-clock system for worry-free watering. Now, all of the irrigation valves run to a weatherproof unit placed on an exterior wall. The battery that powers the unit needs to be changed only once a year and requires no electrical hookup. “It’s great for adapting an existing system, and so easy to do,” Shinn says. Today, the Tylers are thrilled with their lush, low-maintenance landscape. “I am extremely happy and satisfied with the outcome of the project,” Tyler says. “In dealing with Hokuahi, I found Gary very easy to talk to and, best of all, a good listener.” Such a good listener, in fact, that the Tylers have received all the oohs and aahs they were looking for — in abundance. Recently, “One friend even said, ‘This looks like a botanical garden!’” Tyler says. Page 2 of 2 1 | 2 |
