Bedroom
In the bedroom, Johnson chose dark wood furniture with contrasting linens in soft, cool colors. The open pattern of the headboard allows it to go against a window without blocking the views of the garden. For warm summer nights, Johnson suggests breathable bamboo sheets and lightweight cotton linens from John Robshaw. Here she used Robshaw’s blue-and-white reversible quilt and coverlet. A large, fully dimmable bedside table lamp is perfect for reading and relaxing in bed or seated in the low-maintenance rattan chair. Outside
Johnson chose outdoor pieces made for lounging. The Hemisphere chair (above-right) by Dedon, swivels so you can enjoy the sunset. The home features a serene backyard garden with a flowing water feature. Out front sits a large deck with beautiful views of the Mokulua Islands, where the homeowners say they “practically live during the summer.” With almost as much square footage as the interior living space, it’s perfect for entertaining. The family's spacious deck is ideal for impromptu gatherings. To break up the large space, Johnson created defined areas, including a seating area (above) and a dining area. A comfortable lounge chair made of durable, weather-proof synthetic material swivels 360 degrees to take in the best view at the moment. The dining space is framed by a bright outdoor rug and large table and chairs in a neutral shade of gray. The powder-coated aluminum and marine rope furniture from Spanish brand Kettal is made to stand up to the elements. The zero-maintenance fabrics used for the cushions, pillows and rug free the homeowners from worrying about sand and stains and allow them to enjoy the company of their friends and family.
