1. Safety

Navigating your outdoor space in the dark can be dangerous if it’s not properly lit. For the safety of you and your family members, light it up. Any pathways in your yard can be lit with low-voltage lighting.

2. Function

Use task lighting in areas such as a barbecue or cabana. Floodlights work particularly well to provide ample task lighting.

3. Décor

Exterior sconce lighting can be added to your home as general lighting and a nice decorative element.

4. Mood

Highlight certain elements in your yard with mood lighting. Uplight a decorative fountain or a large tree, and add some landscape lighting to a hot-tub area. Ideally, you want to create soft, ambient lighting with the option of turning it up when needed.

5. Entertainment

Your lighting needs will change depending on the occasion. Just like interior lighting design, layer your lighting so you can have the right light every time. Add extra lights when entertaining. String icicle lights around a tent, or hang rice-paper lanterns inside the tent for festive, soft mood lighting.
