Herbs such as lavender, rosemary and lemon basil grow well in this amply lit space. However, the most popular herbs for living walls are rosemary, basil, thyme and mint, according to Lee.

If you cook with fresh ingredients, consider this new way to enjoy herbs. With an herb living wall, there’s no need to plot and till a garden spot in the yard. “[This option] takes wasted space and turns it into something unusual and useful,” says designer Greg Lee. “People are used to seeing plants in the ground, but to actually see them in a vertical surface creates a curiosity factor.”

This garden is easily customizable. 1st Look Exteriors installs it, piece by piece, using 2' x 2' modular panels. The panels allow the homeowner to choose the size that’s right for his or her space. Herbs can be planted right into the panels’ surfaces. You can care for the herbs using a specially-designed, easy-to-use irrigation system, also installed by 1st Look Exteriors. The system can even tap into an existing water line in the home.
