In Hawaii, we can spend time outdoors year-round. But why limit your outdoor living to the day? Illuminate your landscape after dark to take full advantage of your space. “Landscape lighting will beautify your outdoor space in the evening, extending the time you spend outside and adding safety to your property,” says Scot Willson of Tropical Modern. When choosing outdoor lighting, consider location, materials, purpose and who can help.

Location

Consider where you want your landscape to shine. Brighter lights or a greater number of lights in a certain area will draw the eye. The path leading to your front door should be adequately lit so visitors can walk safely to and from your home. But use caution. “Too many lights in the wrong areas can pose major maintenance problems when trimming and mowing," says Susan Mulkern of Mulkern Landscaping.
