Red Bamboo, which originally opened in Kailua 3 1/2 years ago, has opened a second store in the Aloha Tower Marketplace. The new location, according to owner Carole Jacobs, “has a history of being a very good location for our Island-inspired look.” In addition to its large inventory of accessories, gifts and linens, the Aloha Tower store has a showroom floor that enables Jacobs to feature large furniture pieces, such as queen-size beds and 12-foot dining tables.

Jacobs designs most of the furniture and creates items specifically for Hawaii. “I’ll take pictures of Diamond Head or the Mokuluas or pictures of the beach in Kailua and have them hand-painted in Indonesia,” she says. Jacobs also travels to Bali several times a year and works with more than 70 vendors to hand-pick each item.

Red Bamboo helps customers coordinate various styles to create a unified look for their homes. “Many of the homes here are a mix; they’re not just Asian, they’re not just Hawaiian, they’re not just Balinese. When you walk into a home that really works, it’s a mix of all the eclectic things that exist in Hawaii,” Jacobs says. The Red Bamboo staff can help you figure out how that beautiful, Balinese coffee table can work with your favorite couch; or, if you’re on a budget, they can start you off with something small, such as a hand-rolled candle from Thailand that burns for 200 hours. “ We want to be able to add variety and beauty at every price,” she says.
