Rice Cooker

Prepare rice in a rice cooker and you’ll use a fraction of the energy it would take on the stove — without the risk of burning the rice. Rice cookers can also be used to cook other foods, such as quinoa, and some models will even steam vegetables or tofu.

Countertop Grill

These grills, including models such as the famed George Foreman, are inexpensive, energy-saving alternatives to firing up the stove or outdoor grill. They’re perfect for meals for one or two people, or for quick snacks like a grilled-cheese sandwich.

Slow Cooker

Today’s slow cookers require very little energy compared to a traditional oven or stovetop. A slow cooker uses just 100 watts of electricity, making it one of the most energy-efficient appliances in the kitchen. Plus, it won’t heat up your home like an oven or stove will.

Toaster and Microwave Ovens

Toaster ovens do the same job as a conventional oven in less time. They heat up quickly and use less energy to stay hot, making them a great go-to option for smaller meals and snacks. Microwave ovens, or microwave-convection combination ovens, are another energy-saving choice when you don’t require the size of your traditional oven.

Waffle Iron

If you make waffles often, a waffle iron will save you energy in the same fashion as a countertop grill. Some models flip to a flat surface to also make pancakes and other foods quickly and efficiently.

UNPLUG IT!

Remember, to avoid phantom load, unplug all of your small appliances when not in use.
