The homeowners got the large spalike bathroom they always wanted with double-sinks and a glass-block enclosed walk-in shower.
The homeowners, the Wasco team and drafting company Structural Hawaii sat down early on to talk priorities. The homeowners had a long wish list of features for the new house, including an open floor plan, a nice kitchen, a relaxing master suite and large windows to maximize the gorgeous views.

“The old house just felt like a house propped on a piece of land versus a house that was integrating the beauty of the land it was on,” the wife says.

The height of the large step-up Jacuzzi tub was customized to ensure the bather's ability to see the view through the adjacent window.

Keeping the size of the house under control was an integral first step to keeping the budget under control, Yamagishi says. Together they decided on 2,100 square feet and a single-story, open design to make the most of the small lot. Within the house, “It’s smart to focus on the most important areas, the ones you spend the most time in, and then spend wisely,” Yamagishi advises. “Finishes are flexible, but square-footage isn’t.”
