A local, family-owned business, Kiso Store has supplied home-improvement products to Hawaii homeowners since 1945. The store was founded by Kiso Tamanaha, father of current owner Paul Tamanaha.

“[My grandfather] actually started doing dry goods and hardware and then, during the 1970s, he switched over to building materials and concrete products,” says company representative (and Kiso’s grandson) Russell Tamanaha.

Today, the store’s specialty remains the same as it was 30 years ago. Kiso Store retails a wide variety of outdoor concrete products, including more than 20 varieties of pavers, stepping stones, concrete blocks and a large selection of concrete Japanese lanterns, Buddhas, flamingos, turtles and more. The business also offers an extensive collection of decorative rocks, including river rock in various colors, perfect for rock gardens or small-scale landscaping projects.

Do-it-yourselfers and weekend warriors have plenty to choose from at Kiso Store’s 2,000-square-foot open lot. In addition, the company prides itself on local, friendly service and reasonable prices. “It’s a small, family business,” says Tamanaha. “If you’re doing basic landscaping, outdoor decorating or repairs, you can find what you need here.”
