History: After a surfing trip to Bali in the early 1980s, Luis Gamarra Pomar became involved in the Balinese garment industry and spent a year and a half working as a wholesaler. He later discovered that he had a keen eye for furniture and turned his ability into a business. In 2000, he worked out of a warehouse that was open by appointment only; the following year, he relocated and opened the retail store on Kamani Street. Philosophy: Pomar’s goal is to provide a wide variety of high-quality products at affordable prices. He and the other employees at Bali Aga are committed to working with customers to find the right pieces for their home. They take a lot of pride in their inventory, and encourage clientele to shop around and compare their prices and the quality of their products to what other stores offer. What’s in Store: The three floors of Bali Aga feature an eclectic collection of items from Southeast Asia, including everything from furniture and mirrors to wooden vases, art and more. The lanai furniture is especially popular; Pomar has many different styles shipped from various vendors, as well as some collections that are made right here in Hawaii. Don’t Miss: Shipments arrive every month, so there are always new and interesting pieces to discover. “The excitement we bring to our followers is a great accomplishment and is extremely rewarding,” Pomar says.
