Could you go a year without toilet paper? One family went without it and a whole lot more—and this weekend you can watch a movie all about their experience. Playing at the Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) on Saturday and Sunday is No Impact Man, a new documentary on a man's mission to live a carbon footprint-free existence with his wife and child in New York City. I first read about the family in this New York Times article. For a year, the Bevans went as green as they could go to see how lessening their impact would affect their lives and the environment. They didn't buy anything new (including toilet paper), didn't produce any trash, didn't eat out or use electricity (including the elevator to get to their ninth floor apartment). They even traveled exclusively by foot, bike or Razor scooter. It's an incredible story, especially the home-related aspects of growing your own food and running a household with few of the modern conveniences we're used to. Sounds like a must-see.
