Hawaiian Electric Company's new Energy Detective Guide is a free, illustrated booklet that helps children and parents work together to uncover clues and find energy villains that contribute higher utility bills. Ideal for children 10 to 12 years of age, the guide also works for kids of all ages. Inside you'll find fun ways for the whole family to learn more about energy conservation and efficiency. Simple activities identity sources of energy waste (called energy bandits and energy phantoms), such as incandescent light bulbs and cell phone chargers, and offer low- to no-cost solutions to improve energy efficiency.

Spot the villains with some stealth detective work throughout the 12-page booklet and at the end, kids can sign and mail a pledge to save energy and be entered in a free drawing to win an Energy Conservation Kit.

Playing detective this time of year is perfect timing with Halloween just around the corner! To get a copy of the Energy Detective Guide, call HECO at 543-7511.
